ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo determine the value of the five-times sit-to-stand test (FTSST) on assessment of physical performance for older people.Methods65 volunteers participated in this study. 21 of them were evaluated the FTSST twice by the same raters within one week. Test-retest reliability assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). 65 volunteers were tested for the FTSST, the Timed "up & go" test(TUGT) and the strength of lower limbs. The Pearson's correlation (r) and stepwise regression analysis was used to examine the relationship between these variables and the FTSST time.ResultsThe FTSST showed good test-retest reliability(ICC=0-91, 95%CI:0-79~0-96). The TUGT, the strength of lower limbs and age were significantly related to the FTSST time (P<0-05). The strength of lower limbs was important clinical factor to consider in determining the FTSST time.ConclusionThe FTSST showed good test-retest reliability and can reflect the physical functional status of older people.

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo determine the test-retest reliability of isometric muscle strength measurement for the lower limb with functional squat system (FSS) in elderly people. Methods20 elderly participants were measured the isometric muscle strength in 5 s of each lower limb with FSS, and retested a week later. The maximal voluntary contraction and the average strength of each lower limb were recorded. ResultsThe intraclass correlation coefficient were 0.77~0.88 (P<0.01). ConclusionIsometric muscle strength measurement of the lower limb with FSS shows acceptable test-retest reliability in elderly.

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo investigate the age-related changes in grip strength of the elderly men and compare with the norms of overseas. Methods112 subjects were divided into six groups: 65~69 years old, 70~74 years old, 75~79 years old, 80~84 years old, 85~89 years old, and 90~95 years old. The grip strength was measured with Jamar dynamometer. ResultsThe grip strength of both sides were significantly moderate negative correlated to age (r=-0.681 and -0.68, P<0.001) and stepwise regression analysis showed the age was important clinical factor to consider in determining grip strength in the elderly men (R2=0.468, F=47.951, P<0.001). The grip strength was declined significantly during the 75~79 and 85~89 years old. ConclusionGrip strength had declined in the elderly men and these losses were significantly related to age. The highest loss in men was in the age over 75. The norms of grip strength overseas were not applicable to Chinese older adults.

ABSTRACT

@# ObjectiveTo examine the test-retest reliability and measurement error in using a Jamar dynamometer to determine grip strength for elder men. Methods40 elder men with a mean age of 82 years old volunteered to participate in this study. The grip strength was administered twice using a Jamar dynamometer by specially trained testers; subjects were re-tested at the same time of day a week later by the same testers. ResultsThe infraclass correlation coefficient(ICC) was 0.99. The standard error of measurement (SEM and SEM%) were 1.18~1.69 and 4.11%~6.41%. The smallest real difference (SRD and SRD%) were 3.27~4.68 and 11.39%~17.75%. The Bland-Altman analysis revealed no systematic errors between test and retest. ConclusionThe Jamar dynamometer is reliable and with acceptable measurement errors to determine grip strength for elder men.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To observe the effect of manipulation treatment on headache induced by pure pillow linea nuchae inferior adhesion muscle spasm. Methods 36 headache patients caused by pure pillow linea nuchae inferior adhesion muscle spasm were treated by manipulate the methods of finger press and palm root circle press in base on fixing Ash points according to the symptoms and physical signs. Results After 5 to 10 times by manipulation,of 36 patients,25 cases were recovery,10 cases were excellent,1 case was effective, and the excellence effective rate was 97.22%.Conclusion The manipulation treatment is effect on headache induced by pure pillow linea nuchae inferior adhesion muscle spasm;the curative effect is satisfactory and stable.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To investigate the correlation between anthropometric parameters and grip strength in healthy young adults. Methods The measurement data of 32 healthy young adult subjects(all right-hand dominant)including the age, height, weight, forearm length, forearm circumference, hand length, hand width and palm thickness were collected. The grip strength of right hand of all subjects was measured with dynamometer the G100 spring-grip dumbbells. Results The human measurement data were all significantly related(r=0.479-0.754,P<0.01)with grip strength except age(r=-0.009,P>0.05).In addition, stepwise linear regression models indicated that the hand length and hand width were the main predictor of grip strength(R2=0.723).Conclusion Grip strength is significantly related to anthropometric parameters of healthy young adults. The hand length and hand width are independent predictor of grip strength.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To determine the difference between two standardized grip strength test, the American Society of Hand Therapists(ASHT)recommended and the Chinese National Physical Fitness Evaluation Standard(CNPFES)recommended. Methods 32 healthy young adult,right-hand dominant subjects were measured with their grip strength under the both methods. Results The measurement of grip strength using methods the ASHT recommended was smaller than that of the CNPFES(P<0.05),for all their left and right hand. Conclusion The measures of grip strength are different between ASHT and CNPFES standard. It is important to keep the testing conditions while measuring grip strength, and ASHT is suggested.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To observe the management effect of pressure pain point and painful tubercle in occiput-neck part on tension-type headache (TTH). Methods 380 TTH patients were treated by palpating the central and both sides part from the external occipital protuberance to the spinous processes of neck; recording the total number and position of pressure pain points and painful tubercles; kneading, hitting and pressing all recorded pressure pain points and painful tubercles. Results After 1-6 times treatment, 283 were cured and 58 were effected. The efficiency ratio is 89.7%. Conclusion Muscle obstacle in occiput-neck part plays an important role in TTH. Massage therapy has a significant effect on pressure pain points and painful tubercle.

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo explore the convenient and effective therapeutic methods for acute lumbar strain on the basis of classification and mechanism of acute lumbar strain.MethodsAcute lumbar strain was classified into post-lumbar joint disturbance type, post-lumbar joint embedded type, muscular strangulated type, muscular strain, sacroiliac joint malposition and mixed type. The repulsion reposition, orthodromic allocation, repulsion ilium and moving leg combioned with high electric frequence were chosen according to the patients' age and somatic condition.ResultsAfter 1-3 times curing, the symptom and appearance of the patients were obviously improved, even more recovery. In these 100 cases,52 patients were cured,39 patients were obviously improved, 9 patients were better than before, the rate of obvious effect was 91%.ConclusionsManipulation combined with high electrical frequence is a convenient, safe and effective method for acute lumbar strain.
